Bajaj Auto or Bajaj Bikes is a well known Indian two wheeler and three wheeler brand in the world. Bajaj is sixth largest two wheeler company and third largest two wheeler manufacturer in India. Bajaj Auto turnover has been Rs. 25,000 crores with profit of around Rs.3,900 crores in 2015-16 financial year.
The Bajaj brand was founded by Mr. Jamnalal Bajaj in Rajasthan in early 1940s. Later it established its manufacturing & trading operation around Mumbai & Pune in Maharashtra state in India.
Bajaj motorcycles started its operation in 1944 by selling imported two wheeler and three wheelers in India. In 1959, the company received a licence from the Indian government that allowed it to manufacture two wheelers and three wheelers in India. Bajaj’s first product in India was the Vespa 150 Scooter,that it sold under the license of Piaggio, Italy. Bajaj then went on to produce a replica scooter of the Vespa, known as Bajaj 150. Bajaj , later produced the legendary scooters like Bajaj Chetak, Priya, Super. By 1970, Bajaj Auto made its 100,000th two wheelers. Bajaj Auto was a exclusive scooter manufacturer and Bajaj Chetak scooter was largest selling Bajaj scooty in the world in 80's.
In 1986, Bajaj Auto launched its first Bajaj new bike KB100 with technical collaboration of Kawasaki, Japan. Bajaj Auto continued to produce old geared Bajaj scooter Chetak till Honda Activa made shift of Indian consumer to more fuel efficient gearless scooters.
Bajaj made good progress under Chairman Mr. Rahul Bajaj. Bajaj Auto became more focused and aggressive two wheeler company with Mr. Rajiv Bajaj taking over the role of Managing Director. Mr. Rajiv Bajaj built several iconic Bajaj New Bikes in India like Pulsar, Discover, Avenger , Dominar. He tried "Bajaj Scooty" / Scooters like Bajaj Wave, Bajaj Kristal , but these Bajaj scooter / scooty models didnot do well. Then , tactically he withdrew from scooter / scooty segment and focused on entry level sports bikes segment. His this strategy helped Bajaj regain dominance as entry level sports bike company in India as well as in the world.
Bajaj Auto has three factories in India. The Bajaj Akurdi plant near Pune is the oldest one and also houses company’s research and development unit called ‘Ahead’. The other two "Bajaj motorcycles" plants are in Waluj near Aurangabad and Chakan near Pune.
In 2007, Bajaj acquired stakes in Austrian two wheeler company KTM. Later, Bajaj expanded its stake to 47.96% in KTM Power Sports AG, a company based in Austria. Bajaj and KTM have jointly developed new water cooled engines that power the new generation Dukes and RC motorcycles.
Bajaj motorcycles is best known for launching the new bajaj bike , sports bike Pulsar 150 brand in India. The Pulsar 150 is the first 'bajaj new bike' that changed the face of Indian 2 wheeler market. The affordable performance motorcycle (entry level sports bikes) trend caught up in India pretty quickly and today, there are many manufacturers who offer affordable performance bikes in India. Currently, Bajaj bikes has some famous motorcycle brands like Pulsar, Dominar, Avenger, Discover, Patina, Bajaj V among other in its range. The Bajaj bikes company also worked with Kawasaki bikes and KTM bikes to provide them with sales and service network in India. In 2017, Kawasaki planned to go independent in India after calling of 30 years collaboration with Bajaj in India.
'Bajaj bikes' in India was displaced from No1 two wheeler company position by Honda backed Hero Honda (Now Hero MotoCorp) Company in 2001. Hero Bikes (Hero MotoCorp ) continues to be No.1 two wheeler company in India since then. in 2014, Honda two wheeler ( HMSI ) gained 2nd position displacing Bajaj Auto to No. 3 position in Indian two wheeler market.
Bajaj Auto holds leadership position as largest exporter of two wheelers from India, Bajaj bikes have dominance in two wheelers motorcycle business in SAARC countries, Africa and Central/South American countries. Currently, Bajaj Auto operates in over 50 countries around the world.

Bajaj New Bikes Models are equipped with latest engine technology with BSIV emission norms compliance. Bajaj also plans to introduce bajaj new bike models with Triumph Motorcycle in future. Also, to recover loss in scooter business in India, Bajaj may introduce electric bajaj scooters / scooty in india.
